It has been a great couple of days in Dun Laoghaire golf club as our ladies senior foursomes team participated in the AIG All Ireland Finals and claimed the All Ireland Senior Foursomes title for 2023.
Our ladies first played Belvoir Park golf club on Thursday morning in the quarter finals where we had a convincing win 2.5 pts to .5 pts. That win set up a semi final meeting with Douglas golf club on Thursday afternoon. Again very tight matches with the final match of Leah Lennon and Maeve Kelly finishing on the 19th hole with victory to our ladies. Next up was the All Ireland Final playing Malone Golf Club on Friday morning. After 9 holes all our matches in the final were playing really well and in a winning frame of mind. Joan O’Gara and Ruth Lennon sealed the first point for our team followed by Sinead Benedetti and Anne Quirke sealing the victory for our club for the first time ever in this matchplay competition. The final result was Roscommon 2.5 pts with Malone golf club on .5 points. The Roscommon ladies had come very close to victory on two separate occasions in this competition in 2017 and 2018 but last Friday’s victory made up for all the other years disappointments. Congratulations to our panel of Joan O’Gara, Ruth Lennon, Sinead Benedetti, Anne Quirke, Leah Lennon, Maeve Kelly, Paula Quinn, Rosemary O’Brien and Paula Miley. All members of the panel contributed to this victory for our club having all played a match at some stage in this competition. Well done to Sheila Fallon and Joan O’ Gara as team managers who steered the team to victory. The home coming at the clubhouse on Friday evening was a great celebration for our club and members and we will have a lot of good memories from Dun Laoghaire golf club in 2023.
